Can ChatGPT animate an old photo?

Not by itself. ChatGPT's built-in image tools create and edit still pictures, but they don't give you back a video of your own family photo moving. You can do it inside ChatGPT by adding an app that animates photos, such as Incarn, in the countries where ChatGPT apps are available. Otherwise, the simplest way is a website made for it.

Inside ChatGPT, with an app

  1. Open ChatGPT's app directory and search for "Incarn".
  2. Add the app and sign in to your Incarn account when ChatGPT asks.
  3. Attach the photo to a message and ask, for example: "@Incarn animate this photo of my great-grandmother, taken in 1931."

Apps in ChatGPT are not offered in every country. When they launched, several outlets, including TechCrunch, reported that they were not available in the European Union, the United Kingdom or Switzerland. If you don't see the app, use the website instead.

In Claude

Claude can't animate a photo by itself either, but it supports connectors, and Incarn is available as one.

The simpler way: the website

If you only have a few photos, the Incarn website is the most direct: you upload the photo, the first animation is free to preview, and the HD version costs €1.99 per photo, with no subscription.

Animate a photo on Incarn First animation free to preview, then from €1.99 per photo. No subscription.
